Sunrise Point

Sunrise Point - Bryce Canyon

Photos by Bob Goldman

Bryce Canyon National Park stretches across the Paunsaugunt Plateau in southern Utah. Bryce Canyon is known for its enchanting Thor's Hammerfairyland of colorful hoodoos, rock spires, mesas and canyons. The 18 mile park drive offers over a dozen viewpoints and lookouts. One of the first overlooks, just beyond the visitor center, is Sunrise Point, pictured here. The Sunrise Point view looks out toward Bristlecone Point and marks the northern wall of the immense Bryce Amphitheater. The Queen's Garden Trail begins at Sunrise Point and leads hikers to Thor's Hammer, the Fairy Castle and Wall Street.
With Bryce's fanciful scenery in all directions, the park's wildlife comes in at a distant second place. Snuggled up to the Dixie National Forest, the park's forestland and meadows support a wide variety of animals. Although the park's mountain lions and marmots may elude the parks' sightseers, mule deer can be seen throughout the park during the morning and evening hours.
