Toccoa Falls
|
The Appalachian Mountains drift down into northern Georgia, unchecked at the North Carolina and Tennessee borders. This northern section of Georgia is covered by the Chattahoochee National Forest and encompasses the state's highest peaks. Brasstown Bald is the highest peak at 4,784. To the east is Tallulah gorge, its wonderful falls area, and the nearby Toccoa Falls. This area in northern Georgia holds some of the highest and most photogenic falls in the southeast United States.
Pictured here is Toccoa (beautiful) Falls and its 186 foot drop. Adjacent to the falls is the Christian and Missionary Alliance College. The area grabbed national headlines in 1977 as Toccoa's 100 year old Kelly Barnes Dam broke above the falls. The powerful force brought destruction and death to the college and town below.
