Superstition Trip Report

First created in 1939, the Superstition Wilderness Area expanded to 160,000 acres in 1984.This rugged desert climate is interlaced with hiking routes. Its a part of the 900 miles of the Tonto National Forest System Trails. Trail conditions range from fair to poor, but provide a chance to enjoy a solitary retreat and the stark beauty of the desert. You may have some time to ponder over lasting rumors of the Dutchman's lost cache of gold or some secret path to the lost mine.
This glowing skyline creates a familiar silhouette of a huge desert resident. Somehow the saguaro cactus endures this harsh wilderness setting. Searing heat, arid conditions, bitter cold and flash floods, all challenge these desert dwellers.
