Watkins Glen Farm
|
Watkins Glen has long been famous for its grand prix racing, dating back to 1948. Just outside of town lies a more serious side of life, where hard work is essential for success. New York State farms were not as fortunate with the rich soils as their southern neighbor, Pennsylvania.
This farm, found in the outskirts of Watkins Glen is a typical example of a dairy belt farm. This cool morning mist signals that the warm nights of summer are over, and it's time to gather up corn and corn silage. With over 10,000 farms in the dairy industry, hundreds of thousands of acres of perennial hays, alfalfa and corn crops are needed. Surprisingly, when it comes to ranking the assets of the dairy industry, New York is the third largest state in America.
