Lake Marion

Lake Marion

This lakeside view takes in Lake Marion and the Interstate 95 causeway that spans a South Carolina lake system. Lake Marion, Santee River, Lake Moultrie and the Cooper River were extensively reworked for flood control and a navigable waterway to the Atlantic Ocean. The power generating system along this waterway is owned by the citizens of South Carolina.
Our view of the lake is quite different from the world just below the water line. Fisherman have long imagined what that world looks like and how its inhabitants move around. One such tournament fisherman, Preston Clark of Palatka, Florida, may have that other world figured out. His record setting catch, an ounce shy of whopping 116 pounds, made history here on the Santee-Cooper chain in 2006.
