Ned's Point Lighthouse - Mattapoisett, Massachusetts

Buzzards Bay, found on Massachusetts's southern coast, is marked with seven lighthouses. The beacons were once a necessity to indicate the bay's harbors, randomly spaced points, and underwater hazards. Mattapoisett had its own lighthouse, illuminating Ned's Point since 1838. Although shoddy construction practices plagued the structure, the lighthouse still stands today, casting its light out into the bay.
The stubby, 39 foot beacon was adopted by the local Coast Guard Flotilla and received an extensive renovation, which began in 1995. The town of Mattapoisett developed the area around Ned's Lighthouse into a popular park. Today Ned's Point Veteran's Memorial Park is a favorite spot for local young couples, with a long tradition of weddings and engagement photos.
