Ned's Lighthouse

Ned's Lighthouse

Buzzards Bay, found on Massachusetts's southern coast, is marked with seven lighthouses. The beacons mark the bay's harbors, points and water hazards. Mattapoisett had its light, illuminating Ned's Point, since 1838. Although shoddy construction practices plagued the structure, it still stands today, casting its light out into the bay.
The stubby, 39 foot beacon was adopted by the local Coast Guard Flotilla and received an extensive renovation, beginning in 1995. The town of Mattapoisett has developed the area around Ned's Lighthouse into a popular park. The Ned's Point Park is a favorite spot for local young couples, with a long tradition of weddings and engagements.
