Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe

The crystal clear Lake Tahoe is one of nature's beautiful wonders. The area was carved out by glaciers and the valley dammed up by a geological block fault. This high altitude lake is also one of America's deepest.
Early native inhabitants were known as the Washoe Tribe. Explorers, John Fremont and Kit Carson are some of the first non-natives to visit this enchanting lake.
Tahoe, straddling the California and Nevada border, is known for its clear, blue water. But as population increases, runoff has accounted for a loss of clarity. And despite the states' best efforts to stop sewage effluent, clarity is decreasing at a quarter of a meter every year.
