Million Dollar Highway

Million Dollar Highway

The Million Dollar Highway is one of Colorado's unforgettable scenic routes. This thrilling, high altitude road winds up and down over the San Juan Mountains. Snowfall and slippery conditions can only add to the excitement here.
The road began as a mining access route, as ore wagons brought out tons of precious cargo and hauled in essential supplies. Because of the large amounts of gold and silver transported over this route, suggests the reason it's named Million Dollar Highway. But, a modern marvel of road construction hints that costs may well have surpassed the million dollar mark. Beyond dollars and cents, the scenic views along the way are priceless. This stretch of highway, between Ouray and Silverton, should not be missed!
