Yokum Brook

Yokum Brook

This wonderful scene shows off frosty Yokum Brook located just north of Becket, Massachusetts. This area lies adjacent to October Mountain State Forest and features some of the best trout streams in the Berkshires.
Established in 1765, the Becket area wilderness was developed in an attempt to make it safer for travelers. Population grew very slowly in this frontier town and had not quite reached 1,000 souls in 1900. Residents relied heavily on natural resources, chiefly lumber, charcoal, ash basketry and a granite quarry, to make a living. Today, this area is starting to become an attractive area for seasonal vacation homes.
