North Shore Scenic Hiway

North Shore Scenic Hiway - Beaver River

Freshly dedicated in 2000, Minnesota's Route 61 ranks in the top tier of most beautiful drives in the United States. The All-American Road takes in 150 miles from Duluth to the Canadian border. The North Shore Scenic Highway is sprinkled with a few charming gift shops, historic homes, quaint restaurants, a handful of state parks and miles of splendid scenery along the shoreline of America's largest freshwater lake.
The dramatic views are also shared with the Superior National Forest Byway, Gunflint Trail and the Skyline Parkway. Plenty of native hardwoods make the area a popular destination in the fall. A little patience, some trip pre-planning and lodging reservations can make a vacation to remember. This roadside view shows the Beaver River cascades as they plunge toward Lake Superior. Nearly a dozen rivers sweep down from the Superior National Forest along this scenic drive, adding more beauty to its natural splendor.
