Celebrating its bicentennial in 2005, Canton remains one of the top 10 cities in Ohio. Despite a slight downturn in population, the city remains prosperous, owing much to its railroads, manufacturing , financial and healthcare industries.
The town boasts a symphony orchestra (since 1937), ballet, museum of art and Jim Thorpethe McKinley National Monument. For sport enthusiasts, Canton is also home to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Known worldwide, the Hall of Fame is a fitting tribute to the town where American professional football was born. Over the past 45 years the hall has quadrupled in size, and witnessed major renovations to the exhibit gallery.
The Canton Bulldogs were one of the professional football powerhouses of the day, giving a start to one of the all-time greats, Jim Thorpe. The Pro Football Hall of Fame has entertained over eight million fans over the past 45 years, seeing visitors from every state in America , as well as 60 foreign countries.
