Grace Episcopal Church

Grace Episcopal Church

A light snow announces that it's winter in Asheville, North Carolina. The Grace Episcopal Church sits proudly atop a knoll, built of grey canyon stone and featuring a sharp contrasting red door. The traditional red door, at times, prompts the question, "Why"? Many theories abound. The simplest one states that the protestant Episcopal Church is easily identified as the one with the red door. A more symbolic presentation explains salvation through the blood of Jesus Christ. It may also remind parishioners of the blood shed by martyrs. In ancient history, the red door marked a building as a safe haven for ones fleeing trouble.
