Lake Poinsett

Lake Poinsett

The sun sets on a tranquil Lake Poinsett located on the East Coast of Central Florida. This 5,000 acre lake is one of a series of lakes connected together by the St. John's River. During an afternoon thunderstorm downdrafts can transform this body of water into a rough, choppy, and unpleasant situation. Keeping a watchful eye on weather is always a wise precaution.
The iced tea shade of stained water holds several species of freshwater fish, including brim, speckled perch, shad, catfish, and black bass. Fishing for Florida largemouth bass seems to be one of the most desirable and exciting freshwater fishing sports. During the last two decades bass fishing has enjoyed a huge leap in popularity, enticing 70 percent of freshwater anglers.
In January 2001, Dean Rojas, during a four day B.A.S.S. tournament, topped out with a record breaking catch of largemouth bass totaling 108 pounds, a feat never before accomplished until this February, 2006. On two South Carolina lakes, Marion and Moultrie, Preston Clark of Palatka, Florida, set another four day tournament record with a whopping 115 pound, 15 ounce catch.
