Henderson Beach - Destin, Florida

The state of Florida, led by Governor Bob Graham, initiated a new land conservation act called Save Our Coast Program in 1981. Well supported by state residents, Florida enjoys a successful history of purchasing land for conservation. It's annual budget, over 300 million dollars, far exceeds that of any other state, as well as the Federal government.
The first purchase of private land under the new law was 6000 feet of beautiful panhandle shoreline in Destin. Opened to the public in 1991, Henderson Beach State Park protects a scarce segment of Gulf Coast beach which had remained in its natural state. The park is great addition to the state park system, offering limited public access to a picture perfect seascape. The beach appearance equals the pure white sands of Siesta Key Beach and the turquoise waters surrounding the Bahamas.
Henderson Beach State Park is setup with boardwalk access, large pavilions, a playground, and a dunes nature trail. Beach-side bathhouses and showers accommodate sun-loving guests on this dazzling shoreline. The park also offers 60 campsites, accommodating tents or RVs, which include water, electricity, picnic tables and grills. This park is an absolute gem on the Emerald Coast.
