Colorado Ski Train

Colorado Ski Train

This long running Ski Train powers its way through some of the most scenic Rocky Mountain scenery in Colorado. This striking winter scene stirs up a nostalgic image and awakens childhood memories of a fun-filled holiday season with model trains. Between the mesmerizing, distant clickity clack, to the close-up thunderous roar and feeling raw power, trains provide exciting sights and sounds for both observer and passenger.
The train, running from Denver to Winter park, has ferried sightseeing passengers for almost 70 years. On its route, the Ski Train climbs 4,000 feet, passes through 28 Rocky mountain tunnels and transverses 56 miles of challenging terrain. Pictured here is Engine UP 1989, a Union Pacific workhorse with a specialty logo, a tribute to the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad, which moved the Ski Train for many years. The Continental Divide paints a scenic background for the Ski Train as it passes Gross Reservoir and makes its way toward Moffat Tunnel.
