Rhyolite Schoolhouse

Rhyolite Schoolhouse

The town of Rhyolite sprouted up quickly. Hotels, boarding houses, saloons and restaurants were hastily erected as more and more mining prospectors poured in. At the first town meeting it was decided the town's children needed an education. A school was completed in 1906 and enrolled over 200 students. Almost as soon as it went up, it came down in a strong windstorm.
This Picture of the Day shows off a mountain view through window openings of the replacement Rhyolite schoolhouse, well weathered after its 100 years of existence. It is easy see that daydreaming would be a student's pastime.
