It may be its fragile form, or the way it sits up on its slickrock pedestal, or perhaps it's the reward after a long, uphill climb; but whichever the case may be, Delicate Arch remains the main attraction in Arches National Park. Out of 2000 natural occurring arches in the park, Delicate Arch is by far the most popular. The one and a half mile hike begins near the 1906 Wolfe Ranch log house (inset). Seen by hundreds of Delicate Arch hikers every day, this site was where John Wesley Wolfe and his family raised cattle from 1888 to 1910. Beyond the tiny log house, visitors start up a broad slickrock mountain face and continue the long climb to a very narrow, chiseled pathway to see this marvelous natural work of art. Here, Utah's majestic La Sal Mountains provide a perfect background for this wonderful setting.
