Monarch Pass

Monarch Pass

Monarch Pass, a high elevation mountain pass, is located between the Colorado towns of Salida and Gunnison. This scenic route, U.S. Route 50, takes travelers over the Continental Divide and remains open for the majority of the year.
In this area, wonderful views are further enhanced with the Arkansas River flowing east of the divide and Tomichi Creek headed to the west. For the roadhugging, flatlander visitors, it's recommended they travel this road from east to west, avoiding a white-knuckle trip on the road's outside edge.
