Indian River Lagoon Scenic Highway

Indian River Lagoon

A deceptive distance, from the Florida Panhandle to the tip of the peninsula at Key West, measures more than 850 miles. Throughout this stretch 19 corridors have been designated as Florida scenic highways, from the panhandle's Pensacola Scenic Bluffs Highway and the Florida Keys Scenic Highway.
Somewhere in between on Florida's east coast, is the 150 mile Indian River Lagoon Scenic Highway. Once known for its Indian River citrus fruit, the land is now promoted as Florida's Space Coast. The byway route begins in Titusville and leads southward to Wabasso following the western edge of the Indian River. The return trip follows A1A along the coastal barrier islands, including views of the Atlantic beaches. This Picture of the Day is taken from River Road near Rockledge, a short side trip for close-up views of the broad river.
