Home of the Mountain Utes

Home of the Mountain Utes

Garden of the Gods, just outside of the city of Colorado Springs, is filled with impressive rock formations, wonderful hiking paths, rock climbing opportunities and marvelous mountain views. Fanciful names, such as, Sleeping Indian, Siamese Twins, Pig's Eye, Tower of Babel and Three Graces date back to the Pikes Peak Gold Rush era and continue to stirred our imaginations.
Physical evidence, scattered throughout the park, shows that native Americans have visited the area for thousands of years. Petroglyphs, fire rings and arrowheads make up a large portion of archaeological discoveries. This area not only attracted Colorado's Mountain Utes, but the nomadic tribes from the eastern plains. The Utes that endured and enjoyed this bountiful and scenic area until the 1870's.
