Lush plants, a boulder strewn stream . . . at first it's hard to imagine this setting in our 49th state. But Alaska's extra long days and abundant rainfall create a perfect climate for this location found outside of the Alaska Heritage Center.
     The center, applauded by the Alaska Federation of Natives, introduces southwestern Native cultures of the Yup'ik and Cup'ik communities. Both indoor and outdoor exhibits feature old traditions as well as contemporary cultures. Displays convey various Native community homes, clothing, ceremonies, tools and technology, and the roles of good and evil shamans.
