Eastward, off the coast of Portland Maine, lie the Calendar Islands of Casco Bay. Although their number doesn't total 365, as one early explorer had once thought, estimates vary from 136 to 200 islands. Bailey Island is one of the ten major islands in the bay and this charming view shows off a Mackerel Cove panoramic view of the harbor that's tucked into Bailey Island's southwestern corner. Although Bailey Island is at the end of a string of finger shaped keys, it's connected by Maine's Route 24. The picturesque cove is a traditional working-man's harbor, sprinkled with fishing vessels that await favorable seas. |
