Once local a hangout, this scenic spot on Little Eastatoe Creek has been transformed into a welcoming roadside park. Thanks to a handful of sponsors and energetic group of volunteers, the inviting stop on the Cherokee Foothills National Scenic Highway now offers a picnic area, nature paths and ample parking.
Here among the boulder strewn Little Eastatoe, the creek cascades down a long sandstone waterslide. The creek's house-sized rocks and mysterious pot-holes draw sightseers down to the creek side. Little Eastatoe Creek Potholes - Long Shoals Wayside Park Anglers are thrilled to have their clean riverbanks back as they roam up and down the cool creek waters in search of those elusive trout. Stocked on a regular basis, the South Carolina DNR adds healthy sized rainbow, brown and brook trout.
Located adjacent to a section Jocassee Gorges Wilderness Area, the Long Shoals Wayside Park covers about ten acres in the Poe Creek State Forest. Here in an area that's filled with outdoor recreation sites, this day-use park emphasizes South Carolina's commitment to improve its public property. Although it’s just a small area, there's plenty of room for the amount of area traffic and a pleasant stop for family fun.
