Tioga Road Scenic Byway

This wonderful Sierra Nevada Mountains view spotlights the Tioga Pass Scenic Byway. Route 120, or Tioga Road, weaves westerly from Lee Vining, by Tioga Peak, along Ellery and Tioga lakes, up and over Tioga Pass and on into Yosemite National Park. This highway is one of the most popular scenic drives in California, and happens to be the highest, as it climbs to an altitude of 10,000 feet at Tioga Pass.
This splendid Yosemite scene takes in Dana Meadows, the northern fork of the Dana River and a 12,764 foot high Mount Gibbs. Mount Gibbs was named for the professor of science at Harvard, Oliver Wolcott Gibbs, in 1864. Mt. Gibbs is a relatively easy climb and is far enough away from the very popular Mt. Dana to offer a more tranquil outing.
