Shell Creek
|
Shell Creek weaves its way down through the granite
walls of Shell Canyon and the Big Horn Mountains. Sometimes in a noisy rush, other times, in a slow, but steady
stream. All along the creek are wonderful scenic views, beauty and grandeur.
Trapper, Beaver and White Creeks all merge with Shell Creek as they
flow toward the Big Horn River and Greybull.
Along U.S. Route 14, Shell Creek flows toward Shell Falls,
located about halfway through Shell Canyon. The water flow over the narrow
Shell Falls
is sometimes as much as 3,600 gallons per second, depending on the time of year, and can be heard well before it is seen.
Shell Canyon is surrounded by the Bighorn National Forest, home to the Crow, Sioux, Cheyenne and Arapaho Natives.
