A nature lover’s paradise, park personnel at Cumberland Falls State Resort Park are happy to point visitors toward one of the premier trails in the park. Trail #9 Sign - Cumberland Falls Park, KentuckyAlthough it's a short hike, trail #9 can be somewhat challenging. The tight pathway, high above the Cumberland River, follows alongside spectacular sandstone cliffs and under rock ledges. Once the trail descends the steep cliff-face by way of a metal staircase to a secluded glen and Eagle Falls, hikers will better understand the warning that the Cumberland River sometimes submerges the Eagle Falls trail. After a little bouldering and wandering among house-sized river rocks, the beautiful falls comes into view.
Spectacular views of the Cumberland Falls along trail #9 are an added bonus on this hike. From this elevated perch, distant views of the incredible thundering falls appear in openings between the tree-lined pathway. Several viewpoints afford visitors great photo ops of the Cumberland River and the park's centerpiece, the Niagara of the South.
Cumberland Falls State Resort Park is not only surrounded by scenic beauty, but its amenities are top notch. The DuPont Lodge and dining room offer great views and all the comforts of home.
