For the past million years creek waters have steadily carved a thousand foot gorge into the western edge of Cherokee Falls - Cloudland Canyon State Park, GeorgiaLookout Mountain. Here at Cloudland Canyon State Park, tucked into the northwest corner of Georgia, Daniel Creek and Bear Creek join together to form Sitton Gulch Creek and a spectacular view at the confluence.
In this mountainous terrain, dogwood, rhododendron, mountain laurel and wildflowers brighten the dense hemlock forest. A network of park trails lead visitors out to the canyon overlook, along the rim, and down into the Daniel Creek Valley. More than 1200 stair steps and a series of trails lead down to two enchanting waterfall areas. Hemlock Falls - Cloudland Canyon State Park, Georgia The Falls Trail, beginning at the main overlook, passes impressive rock formations and rock walls on the way, making the hike all the more dramatic. The Falls Trail connects with Sitton’s Gulch Trail, a two and a half mile loop trail that follows the canyon floor.
The 3485 acre park not only offers a variety of dramatic scenery, but also a comfortable assortment of amenities, including cabins, cottages, RV site, playground and picnic areas. There’s plenty activities for all levels of fitness, including an easy pathway to the Cloudland Canyon overlook. For those who take on the waterfall trails (one of the park’s scenic wonders that's hard to pass up), keep in mind it’s a relatively easy going down, with plenty of resting stops on the way back up for good reason.
