The Hoosier State

Indiana's claim as one of the six Great Lakes States is tied to 45 miles of shoreline on Lake Michigan. More than half of this section is protected as the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Other state standouts include America's most famous Memorial Day race, the Indy 500, South Bend's Notre Dame University, and historic towns of Fort Wayne and New Harmony. Visit some of the state's 36 National Historic Landmarks, locate Parke County's large collection of covered bridges, enjoy its fall festivals, cruise some of the state's eight scenic byways, or spend time in one of the oldest park systems in America, featuring 24 state parks. Whether it's arts and culture, agritourism, Amish country, or a week of relaxation on a lakeshore, Indiana offers a wide variety of entertainment.
