You would think that the Bear Mountain Trail, one of Sedona's most scenic mountain areas, would be trampled with weekend hikers. Luckily, for the avid hiker, this Red Rock Country trail remains only moderately used, possibly because of its severe 1200 foot elevation change.
   This central Arizona sandstone mountain is sculpted with deep side canyons, adding appreciable contrast to its panoramic views. Fay Canyon, a side canyon comes into view from the Bear's false summit, about an hour and a half into the climb. Once on top, the distant San Francisco Range comes into view, and also the understanding of why this area ranks at the top of Sedona's best hikes.
