The Squaw Flat Scenic Byway, an official state byway, is primarily a short section of Utah's Route 211. For those that can't get enough of the state's southeastern canyonlands, sometimes another unofficial addition includes Route 191, from Monticello, northward to Route 211. The entire area is filled with dramatic canyonland scenery, historic sites and a fantastic mix of geological shapes.
Some of the outstanding features along this stretch of highway include Angel Arch, Newspaper Rock, Six Shooter Peaks,
Dugout Ranch, the Needles and the Anticline Overlook. To the south lie the Abajo Mountains and it's the Abajo Scenic Backway that climbs through the Manti-La Sal National Forest. This colorful view from Squaw Flat looks toward a stand of cottonwoods, dressed in their golden attire, with Squaw Butte rising in the background.
